„Nun, erstens hängt es davon ab, welches Element der Hierarchie man betrachtet. Und zweitens sind es nicht „die Männer“. Okay? Es ist ein winziger Prozentsatz der Männer, und das ist nicht dasselbe wie „Männer“. Wenn die meisten Männer stehen nicht an der Spitze, und wenn man sich die Leute ansieht, die wirklich ganz unten sind, dann sind das meistens Männer. Es ist also ein kleiner Teil der Männer. Und dann ist das ein sehr willkürlicher Ausschnitt.
(…) Nun, was wollen wir damit eigentlich sagen? „Es gibt eine unverhältnismäßig große Anzahl von weißen angelsächsischen Männern, die Milliardäre sind”. Das kann durchaus sein.
Was genau hat das mit Männern zu tun? Warum ist das eine Sache der Männer? Es ist ja nicht so, dass alle diese Männer so sind. Sie sind es nicht. Sie sind nicht so. Es ist nur ein winziger Teil der Menschen, die so sind und das sind nun mal hauptsächlich Männer. Aber das deutet nicht auf eine grundlegende Unzulänglichkeit der gesamten Sozialstruktur hin. Ich meine, 99% der Maurer sind Männer. Ist das ein Problem? Nun, niemand weist jemals darauf hin. Man braucht nur auf die Website des US-Arbeitsministeriums zu gehen und kann sich die Rangfolge der Berufe nach Geschlecht ansehen. Es gibt etwa 50 Berufe, die zu 95 Prozent und mehr von Männern ausgeübt werden. Man hört nie ein Wort über sie. Und warum?
Weil es sich um staubige, zermürbende, schwierige, handelsbezogene, intensive, mühsame Jobs im Freien handelt. Das ist der Grund!
Und warum kämpfen wir dann nicht für die Gleichstellung, die Gleichberechtigung der Geschlechter unter den Maurern, mit Zwang? Sagen wir, ab jetzt geht es per Anordnung. 50% der Frauen wollen Krankenschwester werden. Auf gar keinen Fall. Also, ab auf die Baustelle mit Ihnen.“

Well, first of all, it depends on which element of the hierarchy you look at and second of all it’s not men, okay? It’s a tiny percentage of men, and that’s not the same as men. Because most men aren’t at the top, in fact if you look at people who are truly at the bottom most of them are men.
So it’s a small proportion of men. And then it’s a very arbitrary slice.
It’s like, okay, so you’re saying, well … what are we saying exactly, “there’s a disproportionate number of white Anglo-Saxon men who are billionaires”. Could easily be.
What does that have to do with men, exactly? Why is that a male thing? It’s like it’s not like all these men are like that. They’re they’re not. They’re not like that. It’s a tiny proportion of people who are like that. And they do happen to mostly be men, but that doesn’t indicate some fundamental inadequacy in the entire social structure. I mean, 99% of bricklayers are men. Is that a problem? Well, nobody ever points it out.
Like all, you have to do is go on the US Department of Labor website, and you can look at occupation rank by gender. There’s about 50 occupations that are 95 percent men and over.
You don’t ever hear a word about them. Well why? Because they are dusty, grueling, difficult, trade-related, intensely, laborious, outside jobs. Well that’s why!
So, and then why aren’t we struggling for equality, gender equality among bricklayers? By force? Let’s say, from here on in it’s by Fiat man, 50% of women they want to be nurses, no damn way. So off to the brickwork with you.
